Mercedes-AMG GLC EV: A High-Performance Electric SUV with a Traditional Twist banner

Mercedes-AMG is preparing to electrify its performance lineup with a new high-performance GLC EV SUV, expected to debut late 2025 or early 2026. Unlike previous Mercedes-Benz electric vehicles (EVs) that followed the EQ design language, this new model appears to blend performance with a more traditional SUV shape, making it a compelling option for AMG enthusiasts.

A New Design Direction for Mercedes-AMG

Spy photos of the Mercedes-AMG GLC EV prototype reveal that the brand is moving away from the “jelly bean” styling of past models like the EQE and EQS SUVs. Instead, this electric performance SUV adopts a more aggressive, conventional design that aligns with internal combustion GLC models.

🔍 Key design highlights include: ✅ Complete tail lights (a step forward from earlier prototypes) ✅ A revised front bumper for a sportier look ✅ More traditional body shape, aligning with AMG’s performance DNA ✅ Placeholder front lights, hinting at further refinements before launch

Mercedes-Benz has officially confirmed that it is shifting towards a unified design language across both EVs and internal combustion models. This explains why the new electric AMG SUV will wear the “GLC” badge instead of adopting an EQ-branded name.

This strategy was first seen with the electric G-Class, which ditched the EQG name in favor of G580 with EQ Technology. Moving forward, this approach will be applied across the entire Mercedes-Benz and AMG lineup.

Performance and Platform Possibilities

While exact technical details remain under wraps, the AMG GLC EV will be underpinned by one of Mercedes-Benz’s advanced EV platforms. Possible choices include:

🔹 Electric Vehicle Architecture (EVA) – Used in larger models like the EQE and EQS SUVs. 🔹 MB.EA & AMG.EA Platforms – Newer architectures designed for mid-size and performance-focused EVs. 🔹 MMA Platform – A flexible platform supporting both electric and combustion engines, though mainly intended for smaller models.

Given its AMG status, we can expect a high-performance dual- or even tri-motor setup, delivering exceptional acceleration, handling, and power.

The Future of AMG EVs

This next-gen AMG GLC EV signals a major shift for Mercedes-AMG’s performance division, offering a more palatable design while staying true to its high-performance roots. With BMW also designing EVs that resemble their petrol-powered siblings, the trend is clear: brands are blending tradition with innovation.

The official reveal is still some time away, but as we approach 2025, more details will emerge about this exciting all-electric AMG SUV. Stay tuned! 🚀⚡
